Securing a top two spot in the Premiership in the 2021/22 season, Wimbledon Hockey Club Men's 1st team qualified for the EHL KO16 that took place in Hamburg from September 29th to October 2nd 2022.
Preparing for a European tournament this early in the season was a challenge but one which the whole squad and management successfully navigated. Late injuries unfortunately ruled out a couple of players from playing in the event.
Wimbledon were up against the strong Hamburger Polo HC on the opening day. Wimbledon had some changes but found Hamburger's defence to be resolute and they took a 4-0 win. The team were back in action again the following day against CA Montrouge in what proved to be an epic end-to-end game. Wimbledon twice came from behind (2-1 and 3-2 down) to win 5-3! The 8 goals in the game came from 8 different scorers! It was a brilliant performance from the team and a great finish to their EHL experience. Congratulations to the team and to Ben Hooper on being named Player of the Match.
The team now face East Grinstead at home at 6pm this Saturday (8th October) in the Premier League.
