For many, the dream of playing for your country remains just that - a dream. However, for an increasing number of junior players at Wimbledon, that dream is becoming a reality. For the 2020 2021 season, 76 Wimbledon players have excelled to be selected for the County, Region or England International junior hockey representation.
This number is more than ever in the history of the club and represents over a 600% increase in 5 years - when Wimbledon had a dozen representatives at County level or higher.
The trend is up overall and very excitingly, the greatest growth is being shown in the higher representative levels with 6 England phase two trialists compared with our previous best of 2 from last season and Regional Performance Centre numbers are expected to be over 30 compared with 20 last season.
We congratulate all the young players selected and for those who didn't make it this time or who aspire to reach these levels, we look forward to supporting you in the future.
And finally, we must thank the fantastic work and commitment from the coaching, umpiring and administrative team including our junior player coaches and parent coaches who's efforts have been instrumental in not only developing our performance pathway but also in supporting the many extra sessions and fixtures we have put on for all our junior club players.
